DLA Piper’s Data Protection & Privacy group are delighted to announce the launch of the third edition of the Data Protection Laws of the World Handbook – a great way to celebrate Data Protection Day!

This edition is particularly exciting as it is available via our new online site, which has a number of new features.  For the first time, we have created an easy reference heat map, which provides a visual guide to the relative level of regulation and enforcement of data protection laws across the world.  Our new site also makes it possible to compare and contrast the laws in different jurisdictions in a side-by-side view.  If you prefer to refer to a hardcopy, the site has an option to create a PDF printer-friendly version – this is possible for a single country which you may frequently refer to, or it is also possible to download the entire Handbook.  The site is mobile optimised for access via your smart phone.

For those of you who are not familiar with previous editions of our Handbook, it offers a succinct overview of the areas of data protection law that have the most practical significance to businesses. The areas covered include international data transfer restrictions, security obligations, breach notification requirements, enforcement, electronic marketing and online privacy, including cookies and location data.  The Handbook provides details of these areas for each of 72 jurisdictions.

The Handbook’s extensive international coverage reflects the footprint of both DLA Piper and the law firms with which we regularly work.  We would like to thank all of the contributors for their invaluable input in to this Handbook.

We hope you find this resource useful, and would love to receive any feedback you may have.
