The US Department of Transportation and the White House have released a new federal government automated vehicle policy guide, “Ensuring American Leadership in Automated Vehicle Technologies: Automated Vehicles 4.0.”

The report describes research, policy, funding and other efforts by 38 different federal government agencies in support of the development and deployment of automated vehicles in the United States.

While it primarily focuses on providing general descriptions of the activities of agencies that have responsibility for AV-related policies or subjects, the document also emphasizes the Department of Transportation’s voluntary approach to AV regulation and highlights the importance of collaboration between the many stakeholders in the AV development and commercialization enterprise.
