Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic there have been recent amendments to Canada’s Patent Act that will authorize the use of certain patented inventions necessary to respond in a public health emergency. These measures will authorize the manufacturing and distribution of patented equipment such as ventilators, masks, and valves. Bill C-13, also called “The Covid-19 Emergency Response Act,” received royal assent on March 25, 2020.
