Technology conference and event producer TechFire and DLA Piper recently collaborated to present a fireside chat with Victoria Treyger, general partner and managing director at venture capital firm Felicis Ventures, and DLA Piper partner Patrick Anding. Their conversation focused on the impact of the new normal on the venture capital environment and examined the potential effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on future investment in a number of sectors.
During the hour-long talk, they analyzed ways in which the venture market has shifted since March and discussed divergence in how various sectors have fared. Areas including fintech and insurtech may see rapid growth despite an economic downturn, for example, while consumer businesses will likely have a more difficult time securing funding.
As the gig economy reaches 50 million workers in the US and continues to grow, optimizing ways for companies to track hours and performance and stay compliant with laws in a variety of jurisdictions through the use of technology platforms will be a major area for investment as well, Treyger said.
